Multi-Image Ad Comparison

For this ad I thought about something that you might see in a magazine. A lot of magazine ads do not have many words. I made the title at the top bigger and the text at the bottom smaller so it kind of guides your eye down the page. The title the picture and the text at the bottom are all centered on the page so everything is aligned.

Evaluating Composition (C.A.P.)

Connection
Can Adjustments be made (large or tiny) to create more relevant connections between elements?
Large scale- I think if I named the posts better the blog as a whole would seem more organize and better connected. I think doing a better job describing what the assignment was would help make a more relevant connection to what the picture is and what it is trying to achieve.
Small- I think I could have done a better job on the grouping assignment. I think the celebration, anarchy, and isolation are only describe what the words are after you read what I did and why. I thing that someone should be able to read the list of works and then look at each of the diagrams and be able to tell what each one is. The cropping in picture one is not very different from the original picture. I should have made more distinction in the cropping so it showed the element I was trying to represent.

If this is a multi page design is there strong visual and thematic connections between the pages?
No, the only thing that is consistent is the black background and whit text.

Alignment

Do I have a clear answer for any question that a client might ask me about the alignment and placement of each component?
No, I place most of the items where I did arbitrarily without any particular reason.
Are conventions of alginment (flush-left, Flush right, centered, ect.) being consistently followed throughout a piece?
All of the pictures are aligned in the blog because Blooger puts them in the center. Some of the text is left aligned and some of the text is centered. I need to do a better job of making sure everything is consistent on the next project. I think if the items in the blog were aligned better it would make things seem more organized and better put together.
Are there areas of trapped space that could be eliminated? Yes there are areas in the grouping section and in the Picture 2 section. I also did not add spaces uniformly thought the blog. I think it would look better if I added one line of space after each picture or paragraph of writing. That way everything would be the same.

Priority

Is there clear and appropriate hierarchy between elements?
Everything in the blog is organized according to most recent post. Whatever was posted last will be at the top of the blog. There is no hierarchy for order of importance.
Should any large elements be larger or any small elements be smaller?
I think that the grouping exercise the word that is being shown should be a little larger. I is currently a little bit difficult to read.
Is there a pleasing sense of visual flow through?
No, I do not think by blog is very appealing visually. I have never been very artistic and nothing I do or design is ever very visually appealing. I was hoping this course would help me with this. I think for the next checkpoint I might change the colors or try something new to see if it looks better.
Does the eye feel pulled in an opposing direction or pulled off the page by the composition?
I do not think the eye is really drawn anywhere. I kind of have a jumbled mess. I need to work on organizing better. I said earlier that I think having better titles for the posts and having better descriptions of the assignment would help the organization.

Color and Emphasis

In this activity I tried to simulate one of the activities in the book. The book had a row of paper clips. One of the paperclip was a different color. The book said that color was a good tool for making one thing stand out. In the book the paperclip that was colored stood out. I tried to replicate this with the flowers. I had 5 flowers. For of them were the same. The other one I put into Photoshop and changed some of the colors so it looked different. I added red outlines along the edges of the peddles and made the tips of the pedals red. The other flowers were all white so this made a big contrast from the flower that I changed and the original flower.

I started with the picture on the top and made everything black and white except for the blue car. Since blue is a dark color it did not stand out very well. I tried to redo the assignment with another picture.

I chose a picture with a lime green car in the center of the picture because I thought it would stand out. Even though this did not follow the golden rule it achieved what I wanted it to. I did not want the picture to look super awesome I wanted the green car to stand out.  The care is right in the middle and it is lime green and I set the rest of the picture to black and white. I think this achieved the purpose because the car is the first thin you notice in the picture.

Grouping

For this assignment we were supposed to group ten images per slide to represent a word.

In this slide the word that I am trying to represent is unity. I put all of the cylinders in a line so they were partly overlapped. When things are overlapped it kind of seems as though they are working together and acting as one or unified. Since they are in a line it shows are all together unified  and not spaced out or unorganized.

The word I am supposed to be representing in this slide is celebration. I chose to use the smiley face image because happiness is usually associated with celebration. I then grouped the smiley face images to represent a bigger picture of a smiley face.

The word that I am trying to represent here is Isolation. I randomly put triangles all over the slide to show that all of the were independent and none of them were isolated from all of the other triangles.

The word that I am trying to represent here is Escape. I grouped nine diamonds together and then placed the tenth farther away. I was trying to show that the diamond has escaped from the rest of the diamond pack that is grouped together.

The word that I am trying to represent here is intimidation. I made one of the arrows really big so it would seem intimidating. To me big things seem intimidating. I then made the rest of the arrows smaller and facing away from the bigger arrow. I was trying to make is seem as if the little arrows were intimidated and running away.

The word I am trying to represent on this slide is logic. I used these images that looked like plus signs because I thought that they fit together like puzzle pieces. When I think of logic I always think of putting simular pieces of information together like a puzzle to represent a bigger picture.
The word that I am trying to represent for this slide is Anarchy. I used squares and stacked them up to make them look like a pyramid. Pyramids always remind me of Egypt. Currently the citizens of Egypt are protesting the Government and trying to oust the current president and show complete disregard for what the Government and Military are telling them to do.

Pic 3

In the original image the water tower was at the center of the image. I tried to move the water tower off to the side. In the cropped image the road no longer points directly to the center off the image but off to the side.

Golden Ruler

Picture 2

Like the first image i tried to crop this image so the road did not point to the center of the image. I copped the image so there was unequal space between both sides of the road. The two cars are kind of the focal point on the image so I made it so they are not in the center but more off to the side. The original picture was majorly composed of the horizon and I did not think it was important so I cropped it out. I did not want the picture to be half land and half horizon I tried to aim for two thirds land and one third horizon.

Picture 1

I cropped this picture so the road would no longer be going right down the center of the picture.  In the first picture the road split the image right down the center. I tried to crop the image so there was unequal distance between the right side of the road and the left side of the road.
